Khen-that old grey gelding...

Khen is getting to be quite the old guy...he's 22 years old now. He's spent the last 17 years on the farm, keeping Jim's mare La Brariza out of trouble. He's papered as a purebreed Spanish Arabian, and because he was conceived in Spain, he's considered imported. He was born on our farm in Oregon. As a foal, he was registered as a"Liver Chestnut"-basically a redish brown rusted coat, with a mocha colored mane and tail, and a big white blaze running down his face. Within a couple of years he shed out-first toward a dappled grey, then fading to his current white coloring.

Khen's a very smart horse. He's intuitive, although a bit more spirited than La Bariza. When Khen runs, he's animated and throws his head around. As a stallion he was gentle and I never worried about his striking out at anyone. I had to geld him after he got in with another farms mares and well did what any guy would do provided the opportunity.

My Quarterhorse friends always good naturedly kid me about owning Arabians but as my friend Patricia Hampton like to say, "Quarter Horse people don't like Arabs because they are just afraid of having a horse that's smarter than them."

I'm sure Khen would agree with her. Posted by Picasa
