After witnesssing the fatal bullriding event at the Newport Rodeo, and hearing yet another case of a friend's partner getting lost in the haze of meth, I just had to pull back and hang out with those in my local community. The world got just a wee bit overwhelming.
As a former trucker, I've been first on the scene of many bloody accidents. I've witnessed things that you really don't know what to do with. Where do you put those images? How do you reclaim peace in those moments?
In light of that, it seemed some healing time spent on the home front, close to nature was in order. Surrounded by more love than I know what to do with, as poor as the whole starving artist/writer drill has made me, I am richer than I deserve in human compassion.
Some final details on Stoney Covington:
Stoney was from Nespelem, Washington locateed on the Colville Nation. A Rosary Mass was held for him on June 30th at the Nespelem community Center with the funeral held the following day at the same location. A memorial account was also established for Covington at Bank of America.
