Billy Bob's Amazing Adventure

This is the story of Billy Bob. After years of facing tremendous weight issues he had a band surgically installed to assist him with his eating issues. Below is his story in his own words. Billy Bob is a contributor to our Witnesses from the Circle Feature on
www.Highmountainranch.com. Congrats Billy on all you've accomplished. We wish you continued sucess...

My name is BillyBob Bosen, and on May 21st 2003, I was banded by Dr. Kuri in Tijuana, Mexico .

Four days earlier I had learned about the band from my friend here in Seattle who was having very noticeable results in the weight loss area. I did quick research on how it worked, and realized immediately that it was something I needed to do. Like the rest of us on this weight loss roller coaster, I had tried just about everything that had come along, some with good results, and others with no results, but the end result was always the same. I would bounce back to a higher weight than I had been before I started.

I told no one about what I was going to do. I got an appointment with Dr. Kuri and my flight reservations were confirmed. I took a couple of quick before shots, that showed me just how heavy I was, and did a quick inventory of what my waist size was at the time.

When I got the band I weighed just over three hundred and fifty pounds, and I was wearing a size 54 or actually bigger because I had busted out the waistband on my shorts. At that point, I only had a couple of outfits that I could get into, and was rapidly deteriorating.

I was the only patient that was to be banded that day. I had never been to Tijuana myself, but I didn’t feel intimidated at all. I arrived one day earlier to do my pre op tests. Mrs. Kuri picked me up at the airport, and was sweet as could be, dropped me off and I had my tests. I came back with very high sugar, which was no surprise to me. I returned to my hotel in the early afternoon, and although I was a bit on the apprehensive side, I knew that I had made the right decision.

I had no family or friends with me, but it didn’t really matter. Later that evening, Dr. Kuri called to make sure I was ok…all was well and I marched forward.

The procedure was a piece of cake. Dr. Kuri told me after the procedure was done, that he had done his part, now I needed to do mine.

Early on, I committed to myself that I would be as successful with this as I had been in other areas of my life. I am a driven and very motivated person. (Also a bit on the bullheaded side). And so when I got home, I started to drop the weight. I soon found that the weight loss was fairly easy, but what I didn’t know or even expect was how much of the mental and emotional work needed to be done along the way too. I soon realized that there were reasons why I was so heavy, and why I ate so much. I was not a picture perfect patient, but the weight was dropping rapidly. I would eat too much and Pb it back up. I soon found out that I had and was suffering from bandster rage. I quickly turned that rage into exercise. I started walking a lot and drinking plenty of water during this time. The pounds were just coming right off! During the time in my life, I was not getting much support from any family, and I was losing friends left and right.

A few months into the band, I had made friends with a fellow bandster, and we became fast
friends. She, like myself, was very motivated to get the weight off, and we became bandster buddies. We lifted and buoyed each other along the way.

I highly recommend to anyone that is getting newly banded to find someone that got banded about the same time, and help each other. It made all the difference for me. By the time I was ninety or so pounds down, I got a face-lift, which motivated me to get the rest of the weight off. By the time I had dropped another fifty pounds, I got a tummy tuck. Again I had committed to myself to see the project through to the end.
