During the week after the Christmas and New Year's holiday, the house was full of life. Now that everyone is gone, it is quiet and still. I've come to accept that I am both an introvert and an extrovert. I can spend weeks up here in quiet solitude and be content. Yet I also crave the dynamic energy of human connection, and I find much that is satisfying when I am surrounded by people that I love.
A year or so ago a back country outfitter penned a piece for High Country News in which he wrote that when he was in town, he missed the silence of the mountains. When he was in the mountains, he missed the commotion and interaction of humanity. I found much shared commonality in his writing.
