What are words for...

I don't always know, or recognize the true power of words.

Invisible, they do not create physical, microbursted blowdown, or turn the day warm, like sudden down-sloped Chinooks. Words do not ignite forests, reducing them to charred ash. Words do not freeze rivers.

Still, words create destruction. They can burn the ears of those who listen, and freeze the good intentions of those who might be caught off guard by their surprising, unintended arrival. Indeed words are as powerful as any natural force and as such, they should always be respected for the potential destruction they might bring.

Because of words, wars have started. Love's died. Bitterness has darkened.

Because of words, hearts have soared, compassion has danced, and eternity has seemed within reality.

I can not take words for granted, nor take their soothing peace away. In human history and experience, their proper use is the most transient of blessings.
