Volcano Moonset
I need a better camera, because this was a stunning shot. I don't know why I felt the need to be up before dawn last week...but I caught this and really wanted to share it. So visualize the sky---it's this erie redish orange, with all that light reflecting off the river, and an idiot in his underwear trying to catch it all from the front porch.
On second thought don't....
On second thought don't....
Snow Be Gone....
OK so we did the same guessing game as last year...
Whoever guesses the day the last of the snow is gone gets a hat.
Here is where things stood as of Friday.
It snowed last night and this moring up here. Some parts of Spokane received 6 0r 7 inches.
Not so much up here---we are at a point in the year when the river actually helps moderate our temps, so although it snowed and stuck all around us, here at the house, we just had a light accumulation.
Still...it is April.
Right?

Turkey vs Kitty
The other morning just as I was leaving for work, I caught this stand off. Feral Cat vs Wild Turkey.
I seem to be fighting a trend---deer eating everything. Turkey's pooping on everything. Cat's taking over everything. Oh yeah, notice the snow?
Pretty.

Snow Job.
So there I was last Tuesday night, enjoying what I thought would be a really strong hint of spring. Then, I woke up to this.
In pure white trash style, the Christmas Lights remain on the trees...mainly because the chords are still buried.
Spokane now stands at 97.7 inches of snow for the season-an all time record.
Whatever Spokane gets, we normally triple that amount. Which means we may have received close to 300 inches of snow.
My fences are all down. My friend John's front porch no longer exists-when the snow slide off his roof, bam!--Gone.
Same with my old house. The front deck, former site of many amazing stage acts---Gone.
Today it is up to 70.
The last patch of snow on the front of the house is about gone.
The rear of the house is next...will it be May? Or June? When will the last remains of Winter finally melt away?

That's my friend Frank on the right. We've been hanging out together for years and after I dropped a bunch of my fellow students off at the airport I had this idea.
It wasn't a very practical one either.
In Pend Oreille County there are three basic idea's that usually, once expressed, result in an insurance claim, a trip to the emergency room or a nomination for the Darwin Awards.
They are:
Bet ya can't.
Watch this.
Race ya.
Another phrase, is often heard as a precurser to the three mentioned above. It is..."Why don't we _______ ?"
So I proposed to my friend Frank, "We don't we book a flight for ya, you can ride over with me to Pend Oreille County, and then I'll put you on a plane back home on my way to work in the morning."
Frank should know better but he said yes anyway.
My father supplied the toothbrush and the ground connections, Target supplied the road munchies and God provided the sunset.
No emergency rooms, no insurance claims, and not a single darwin award nomination. Things are so looking up.
