My beautiful, occasionally evil, cousin Stacy. By the way, just for the record, Stacy and I have tremendous respect for one another. We are very close. Really. Posted by Hello

How Timmy Got His Groove Back

This is one of those "Why men should listen to women more often stories."

Because in this case, two very special women probably saved my life on Saturday.

"It" seemed really really minor. AT the time.

Sometime after arriving back home at the ranch early Friday morning, and between when my cousin Stacy picked me up mid morning, I was bitten by a spider.

Not just any spider but one that literally took a small chunk out of my arm. When Stacy arrived, I showed the wound to her and joked this better not turn into any sort of flesh eating thing. Stacy responded that I wasn't funny and that even dead, I was expected to be at her wedding in two weeks. Mainly because I am performing it.

Now I realize that little bit of news just caused several people to scroll back up and reread what they just read.
Yep, I am marrying my cousin.

No I am not marrying her myself, but I am conducting the ceremony, helping folks remember their vows and saying really important things for about five, ten, twenty, or thirty minutes. Things that no one will remember by the time the wedding reception is over. At least I hope they won't remember these bits of wisdom.

Anyway by the time Saturday morning rolled around the bite was very swollen, and although the pictures don't do it justice the bite area had swelled to the size of a silver dollar and long red streaks were running up my arm toward my heart and lymph nodes.

Which I was later to learn is a really really bad sign, especially if your cousin is planning on your attendance at her wedding.

Alive.

The pics tell the rest of the story.

Oh yeah I should be fine. I am just on heavy duty meds for the next week. And wondering how many zeros the Emergecncy room bill will have on it. Good thing I got all that laughter out of my system.

Oh the pain, I'm dying...being a total dick to my cousin because I thought the whole emergency room drill was completely unnecessary and that I would be fine... Posted by Hello

Right before I realized the spider bite and resulting infection were very serious. Before the nurse talked about hospitalization. Before I heard the word blood infection, staph and strep and learned how close I came to jeopardizing my health. It was a little spider bite. I didn't need to go to the emergency room I kept telling everyone. I'd be fine. In reality, I most likely owe my fool life to my cousin Stacy and my Aunt Sue who insisted I go to the Emergency Room.

Near Libby, Montana US Highway 2 Posted by Hello

Highway Markers...

The summer travel season is upon us.

Over the memorial day weekend, as I was riding to Spokane with my cousin, I witnessed one of the closest near-miss highway accidents I'd seen in a long time.

With the summer travel season upon us, kids out of school, and everyone preoccupied with those dog days of summer, I thought it might be appropriate to remind everyone to keep their mind on the road. A split second of inattention can result in a lifetime of consequences.

The above photo shows an official Montana State Highway Marker. This roadside marker is marks a place where a person was killed in some highway related mishap. Some fatalities are marked by hearts. Most are marked by simple white crosses. The State of Arizona also marks road fatalities in a similar fashion.

Drive safely. Drive sober. And arrive alive.

Got Wood Part II

Below is a photo shoot done the week before last. I could not load these shots last week while in Seattle...the logging company accessed their site through my property. The job was extremely efficient and has already been completed. 14 loads of logs came off the property.
